LISTERIOSIS AND STATUTORY REQUIREMENTS

Regulations in terms of the Foodstuffs, Disinfectants & Cosmetics Act Government Gazette 41730 GN 638 The Regulations were amended to impose stricter controls after the recent listeriosis epidemic in the processed meat industry. The Regulations now clearly mention the meat and milk industries and impose a small number of changes, of which the most important are:

 

  1. Certificates of acceptability will in future only be valid for a year (regulation 3(11)(b);
  2. The person in control of a food handling premises must be trained in food preparation by a person conducted or accredited by a Health Inspector (regulation 10(1)(a).

 

These provisions will take effect from 22 June 2019
